Relax… there’s still lots to do in OIB in the fall!

It’s the middle of September, the kids are back in school, and the relaxing days of summer are behind us.  When we think of summer, we think of vacations and de-stressing.  If you ask me, we should plan things to help us de-stress and get away from our busy lives all through the year, not just during the summer.  Visiting OIB during the fall months can be so much fun.  In addition to the fact that the weather is great and the water is still warm enough to enjoy, there are so many exciting activities happening in or near OIB.

One great event in OIB is The Annual North Carolina Oyster Festival.  This year’s festival is taking place on October 21st and 22nd, and consists of music, crafts, contests, and amazing food. Musical performances will include Trey Calloway, The Tim Clark Band, and Chocolate Chip and Company. Oyster eating, shucking, and cooking contests will take place throughout the weekend. Vendors from the OIB community will be set up selling handmade jewelry, wood-crafts, clothing, soaps, jams, and many other items.  It’s sure to be a great weekend!

One thing that many people love about the fall is the spookiness of Halloween.  Did you know that OIB offers Ghost Walks? While the Ghost Walks are usually given during the summer months, they open again in October in honor of Halloween.  Learn all about forgotten Civil War battles, haunted plantations, whisky smugglers, lost treasures, and haunted houses during a one mile tour.

Are you a runner?  Run Ocean Isle Beach Half Marathon, 5K and 1 Mile Road race is an annual event that is taking place on October 7th this year. It’s not too late to register if you want to run over the beautiful intracoastal bridge, and across the peaceful island of OIB.  The race ends with music, food, drinks and games! Not a runner?  What a fun event to watch!  Grab your beach chair, make a sign, and cheer on the runners, while enjoying the fall beach breeze!

Is your idea of a stress-free vacation kicking back with a glass of wine?  Visit OIB’s very own Silver Coast Winery.  On November 5th they are hosting The Purple Feet Festival. This family friendly event will feature food, wine tours, grape stomping, and a Lucy-look-alike contest.

In addition to the exciting activities listed above, OIB continues to offer bike rentals, fishing, and nearby golfing.  So whether you prefer quiet walks on the beach, a fun festival, or an afternoon at a winery, OIB has plenty to offer during the fall months.  Why wait until next summer to take the time to relax and de-stress!? There’s no time like the present!
